Ancient Egyptian. Carved, semi-polished black limestone seated jackal/dog with a cobra underneath his chin. Hieroglyphs to the base. Dirt patina. Ptolemaic. 305-30 BC (6 ½” x 7” x 2 ½”).

Jackal, or “desert dog”, is sacred to Anubis—the god who presided over mummification and accompanied the dead to the hereafter.

Everything they teach about Egypt in most schools is distorted. The people of Egypt called their country Kemet not Egypt. Kemet means black land. Egypt is a Greek concept. Egypt is derived from the Greek word Aegyptos. The greeks called the kemetians  language hieroglyphs, but the people of Kemet called their language Medu Neter. Even the names we learn of the gods are wrong. Isis Kemetic name is Aset. Anubis is Anpu. Horus is Heru. Osiris is Wesir. I’m doing research to find as many of the true Kemetic names that I can.

In Ancient Egypt, baboon was a sacred animal to the God Thoth.

patron of the sun (originally), the moon (after the greeks), cats, women, and secrets…

probably the most famous egyptian goddess after isis, bast was said to be the daughter of ra, though long after he created the primal gods. she was originally a sun goddess, but after contact with the greeks, she changed to a moon goddess, probably due to the greeks associating her with artemis.

bast’s importance in the egyptian pantheon might be due to the great value placed on the domesticated cat by the egyptians. 

her worship was widespread, and her cult apparently had a great deal of power.

It’s bad enough that Egypt’s Supreme Council of the Armed Forces is trying civilians in military courts, but to put Egyptian children through the military justice system is an even graver injustice. The military has brought children before military courts without even the most basic protections, like access to lawyers or their families. Even worse, authorities have abused them in detention.
